BAY AREA PLANNING DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION
SB 375: GAME CHANGER OR PAPER CHASE? The Bay Area Planning Directors Association held its Spring 2009 meeting on April 3, 2009 at the Jack London Aquatic Center in Oakland. The meeting provided a great opportunity for local and regional planning and community development directors to discuss SB 375. In addition to BAPDA members, we were pleased to welcome the mayor of Benicia, and representatives from congestion management and transit agencies, water and park districts. The meeting had multiple objectives:
Presentations Ted Droettboom, Director of Planning Programs, Joint Policy Committee, started the program with an overview of SB 375. In his presentation, he emphasized the need for an inclusive process that builds upon current efforts in order to achieve real CO2 reductions. Regional agency representatives, Ken Kirkey, Planning Director, Association of Bay Area Governments; Henry Hilken, Planning Director, Bay Area Air Quality Management District; Joe LaClair, Chief Planner, Bay Conservation and Development Commission; and Doug Johnson, Senior Transportation Planner, Metropolitan Transportation Commission presented how they are approaching SB 375 implementation, as well as related climate action and other activities. Discussion BAPDA Chair Mike Moore then facilitated a lively discussion that yielded great input and information the Steering Committee will use to develop the Program for the next meeting. In particular, we were encouraged to seek out other stakeholders whose active participation will be essential to meaningful SB 375 implementation. Download Presentations:
