A total of 98 Priority Conservation Areas (PCAs) were adopted by the ABAG Executive Board in July 2008 for inclusion in the FOCUS Initiative—the development and conservation strategy for the San Francisco Bay Area.
Priority Conservation Areas are locally-identified and regionally vetted near-term land conservation opportunities. The areas encompass regionally significant conservation values and demonstrate community support and an urgent need for protection within five years.
As part of FOCUS, regional agencies are working with state agencies and funding entities to encourage protection of these important natural resources. The purpose of the Priority Conservation Area Showcase is to increase the visibility of PCAs as near-term land conservation opportunities, attract funding to these areas, and encourage partnerships.
