Contra Costa County
The Pinole Watershed is located along Pinole Creek. The Pinole Creek Watershed area is a regional scenic and recreational resource, as well as a significant habitat for a variety of fish species, including rainbow trout and steelhead. Restoration and enhancement of the creek and its tributaries will improve the ecological structure and function of this important waterway and serve as a regional example of an ecologically-based approach to providing flood control. The Watershed area links the Sobrante Ridge Regional Preserve near El Sobrante, with the Fernandez Ranch, being readied for public opening in 2009 by the Muir Heritage Land Trust, allowing for nearly continuous public access all the way from Cull Canyon Regional Recreation Area in Castro Valley to the Benicia Bridge along the regional Bay Area Ridge Trail system.
