Lobitos Ridge Corridor

San Mateo County

The Lobitos Ridge Corridor is located south of the City of Half Moon Bay in San Mateo County. It contains northern coastal scrub terrain and is the hunting grounds for birds of prey, such as red-tailed hawks and golden eagles. The land is prime habitat for the endangered San Francisco garter snake and the threatened California red-legged frog. The area includes the Purisima Creek and Lobitos Creek watersheds and has the potential to link recreational trails from Skyline Boulevard and Purisima Creek Redwoods Open Space Preserve to the coast and the Coastal Trail. The area is also highly scenic from Highway 1 and from Purisima Creek Road, and views from the future Skyline to the Sea trail are stunning, including views up and down the coast to the ocean. The area also has a couple hundred acres of agricultural land and historical grazing activity on upland grasslands in the area. In total, this area will create an extensive corridor of protected land from Skyline Boulevard to the coast.
