Santa Clara County
The Anderson-Coyote connection is in southeastern Santa Clara County near the border with Stansilaus County. The area provides a landscape linkage between the Coyote Ridge and Anderson Lake areas with Henry W. Coe State Park and to the broader Diablo Range. It creates a community buffer that helps define urbanized areas while contributing to the region’s greenbelt. The area has valley oak and blue oak woodlands and riparian forest along lower San Felipe Creek and its tributaries. It also has a variety of habitat types for a diversity of species. The area has wintering habitat for western burrowing owl, foraging and nesting habitat for golden eagle, and potential breeding and foraging habitat for the tricolored blackbird as well as potential breeding habitat and extensive upland habitat for California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, western pond turtle, and other native species. Land conservation in this area would help maintain its ecological integrity, while providing scenic viewsheds and recreational opportunities for people through trail connections.
