Santa Clara County
The East Gilroy Foothills are located east of the City of Gilroy near the southeastern edge of Santa Clara County. The area provides a landscape linkage across the Santa Clara Valley between the Diablo Range and the Santa Cruz Mountains and connects with Henry W. Coe State Park. The area has valley oak woodlands and riparian woodlands along the upper Coyote Creek. The area also has a high density of ponds that support the California red-legged frog, California tiger salamander, and western pond turtle and other native species and possibly the tricolored blackbird. Furthermore, the area provides foraging habitat for birds using the large wetland complex surrounding San Felipe Lake. Land conservation in this area would help maintain its ecological integrity, while providing scenic viewsheds and recreational opportunities for people through trail connections.
